Edgelord, Much?
It's almost impossible to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion anywhere in the world without discussing leaders who stand for or against such work. This week, the hosts reflect on the meaning of "edgelords", how they sow seeds for conflict and negative reactions, and how to interrupt the chaos that usually (and intentionally!) follows.
Word of the Week [1:10]: Edgelord: The fusion of "edge" and "lord" is a volatile combination in today's America.
Phase 1 [3:56]: The Lightness: Recently, The Economist published an article that speaks to the "unbearable lightness" of being the current President of the United States. You may conjure up visions of him on a golf course (and Dr. Shaunna LOVES golf), but not at a time when the world seems to be purposefully crashing around Americans.
Phase 2 [20:50]: Deportations without Cause: The stories of Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Öztürk, 100s of students having their student visas revoked, and Marylander Kilmar Abrego Garcia are just a few examples of how dissent is being punished. These strategies are being challenged for their constitutionality, fascist overtones, and fear-mongering effects.
