Double Elimination
If this week's episode looks a little short to you, we promise that it's not! Given the density of current events continuing to pummel us all, the Drs have decided to scale back to TWO phases with more depth. This week, we look at the double elimination of books at the Naval Academy library and departments within HHS. Both are losses that affect more folks than you may think.
Word of the Week [1:35]: Scarcity Marketing: Erasure may inadvertently create a sense of urgency and backfire on those who continue to push anti-DEI efforts.
Phase 1 [3:58]: Naval Academy Purge: A grand total of 381 books were purged from the Naval Academy's library, including Maya Angelou's memoir, books on the Holocaust, and LGBT folks in the military. Don't worry -- we downloaded the entire list for your reading pleasure.
Phase 2 [23:32]: HHS Elimination: In early April, the Department of Health and Human Services fired 1000s of employees, decimating several crucial departments. While some employees are being reinstated, it is still jarring to know what we have lost. We run down the list of the programs -- and most importantly, the lives of Americans -- that are being directly affected by these cuts.
